Fun Halloween Party Games

I had my first request for Halloween information. My friend Ann was thinking of having a Halloween party for her kids but wasn't sure what to do. Just like Birthday parties, Hallloween parties are much more fun with games. So here are some ideas.

Scavenger Hunt- if you have small ones I suggest going in groups with a parent in charge of each group. If you have older ones, set them free and enjoy a beverage of choice while they are gone collecting loot. Last year we picked 10 things Halloween, black, orange....you get the drift.

Scarecrow Dress up- Divide into teams of 3 or more. They decide which one of them will be the Scarecrow. In a big pile in the middle of your party space drop enough clothes for each team to make a Scarecrow. Items should include; Overalls, Jeans, plaid shirts, T-shirts, garden gloves, boots, straw hats, New paper to stuff, (don't forget belts or the pants will not stay up). When you say GO the team mates run to gather clothing and dress their Scarecrow partner. This is a hoot to watch. Then you can judge who is the winner or just enjoy the game.

Bucket of Parts- This is a mess but a blast. The game is done relay fashion. First create 3 to 4 5 gallon buckets of guts. Guts= Red Jello, random pasta (penne, mac, etc.) Put in whatever pieces you want. At the dollar store I found rubber fingers, bugs, spiders, etc. Mix it all up. Each person runs to the bucket and tries to find one of the items. At first the texture was gross but then they totally go into it.  I had Bingo type cards made of each item they needed to find.  The first teams to find all objects wins. I also made up a story about Poor Billy's Bowels and how he ate everything in sight. When the doctors opened him up it was such a fright....then name all the things he ate.

Candy Corn Throw- you can adapt this to whatever age you are working with. I have an older crowd so we tied plastic pumpkins around thier waste and their partner had 1 minute to see how many candy corns they can throw into the pumpkin. This was a lot harder than I thought. For little ones you can set the pumpkin on the floor or use whatever container you want. You could also use chopsticks and see how many Candy Corns they can put in a bowl.

Witch Hat Ring toss- you can adapt this to the age group. Older I would have them divided into teams. Make or buy a Hat with a stiff point and make or use frisbees for rings. One team mate wears the hat and the other try to throw the ring around the top. Whoever rings the most wins. Little ones I would set it on the floor.

Doughnuts from a String-I have never been a fan of bobbing apples so this is a great alternative. You need a place to hang a doughnut from or use dowels (like fishing rods) having parents help hold the rods. Have them compete in heats of 4 or more. Hang doughnuts from a string and see who can eat the doughtnut first. I highly suggest white powdered doughnuts becasue they create more mess. If you need to run heats, have a the winners from each heat compete together at the end. Any age will find this fun

Skeleton Scavenger Hunt- I think I will be doing this one this year. Make or buy a life size cardbaord skeleton. You will need as many as you have teams. Divide them into 3 or more team. Hide the skeleton pieces around your house or yard. They have to find all the pieces and who ever puts their skeleton together first wins. Rules- if they find a bone part they don't need. they need to put it back where they found it and then keep searching.

Pumpkin guess game- Find a large Pumpkin and have the kids try and guess the wieght and how big around it is. Who ever gets the closest wins. They can cut pieces of string in the length of the circumfrenece.

Bats in Bowl- cut out a whole bunch of Bats and arrange them on a table or floor. give each child a straw. They have to suck on the straw to lift the bat and place it in the bowl. They have one minute to see how many they can get. You can run this in heats or you can have everyone at the same time (this would be more competive for older ones) just make sure you have enough cut outs.

Mummy Wrap- Divide into teams. They decide who the mummy is and the others are the wrappers. Each team member gets a roll of toilet paper. They have 2 minutes to wrap their mummy. You can judge the best wrapped or you can just enjoy the show.

Most of my ideas I have found from Disney Family Fun Magizine, Online Google Halloween games and from Parties I have attended.

It's time to start planning your party. Most of these games can be done with very little expense and can be adapted from kids to grown-ups. If you have another great game I would love to add it to my collection.
